Various aspects of the Raniganj Coal Basin have been discussed by earlier workers Sastry et al., 1977, Geological Survey of India, 1994. The main objective of this paper is to highlight the salient features of the sedimentary rocks and structural geology of the Raniganj Coal Basin with a view to understand its tectono-sedimentary evolution.
